The Tree
Bangkirai is a large canopy tree, growing to a height of 164 ft.with trunk diameter to 4 ft. and over, and a clear bole of 130 ft., and the buttress as high as 6 - 7 ft.
The Wood
Bangkirai heartwood is brownish yellow. It has a fine to sometimes coarse texture with a glossy surface. Bangkirai is very hard (two to three times as hard as Oak), and very durable. It weighs about 69 - 70 pounds per cubic foot.
Uses
Marine construction, hardwood floors, railway sleepers, bridges, vehicular body, heavy construction, ship building, power line poles, and exterior decking. |
