The ultimate and most widely used heavy construction wood in Holland for more than a century. Bangkirai timbers, extracted from the "mud" of Holland and buried more than 100 years ago, show no signs of decay or deterioration.

Bangkirai, used as a decking material, will last for the lifetime of the structure and can then be used for the lifetime of another structure when properly maintained.

Although carbide tipped cutting and drilling tools are recommended, Bangkirai cuts and drills cleanly.

In addition to the standard smooth surface, Bangkirai offers a unique and attractive alternative by just turning the board over. Exposing the reeded surface, it gives your deck uniqueness available only with Bangkirai. Reeded surface available in 1" and 5/4" decking only.

The Tree
Bangkirai is a large canopy tree, growing to a height of 164 ft.with trunk diameter to 4 ft. and over, and a clear bole of 130 ft., and the buttress as high as 6 - 7 ft.

The Wood
Bangkirai heartwood is brownish yellow. It has a fine to sometimes coarse texture with a glossy surface. Bangkirai is very hard (two to three times as hard as Oak), and very durable. It weighs about 69 - 70 pounds per cubic foot.

Uses
Marine construction, hardwood floors, railway sleepers, bridges, vehicular body, heavy construction, ship building, power line poles, and exterior decking.

INSTALLATION TIPS

Handling and Storage
Bangkirai goes through air drying and kiln drying, reducing the moisture content to proper levels, eliminating splitting, bowing and twisting that is caused by improper accelerated kiln drying only.
Bangkirai should not be stored uncovered in direct sunlight or in a heated area. It is best to store in unheated sheltered areas and allowed to stabilize and acclimate to humidity levels prior to installation.

Carbide tipped sawblades recommended.
3/4" x 3-1/2" size - recommend 16" o/c joist spacing.
3/4" x 5-1/2" size - recommend 24" o/c joist spacing.
1-1/16" x 3-1/2" & 5-1/2" may be installed on 24"o/c joist spacing.
Minimum 1/8" spacing between boards recommended.
Stainless steel screws recommended for fastening (2 per joist).
Boards must be pre-drilled to prevent splitting.
Carbide tipped drills recommended for drilling screw holes.
Recommend counter sinking screw heads 1/16" below surface.
Additional decking adhesive optional.

FINISHING AND MAINTAINANCE

High quality penetrating oil stain must be applied immediately after installation to stabilize the wood.
Apply wax sealer to cut ends during construction.
To retain the natural beauty of the wood, apply a high quality penetrating oil stain annually.
Boards will weather to a natural gray color if additional oil coating is not applied.
